In a bid to strengthen cooperative governance and compliance, Mr. Paul Kenneth B. Maghirang and Mr. Emmanuel C. Flores, researchers from the University of the Philippines Los Baños - Institute of Cooperatives and Bio-Enterprise Development (UPLB ICOPED), visited the Katutubo para sa Kaunlaran, Kalikasan, Kalusugan, at Kinabukasan Agriculture Cooperative (5KAC) in Daraitan, Tanay, Rizal. The visit, held last April 25, was part of ICOPED’s ongoing initiatives to support rural cooperatives. The team provided technical assistance to the cooperative in preparation for their first Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) inspection, ensuring that all operational and compliance requirements would be properly addressed.
During the engagement, Ms. Mary Ann Balasa, CDA Inspector, together with the researchers of ICOPED, guided the cooperative officers through the key aspects of report preparation and operational improvements needed to meet CDA standards. This support included document reviews and strategic consultations aimed at enhancing the cooperative’s organizational systems and financial reporting practices. Officers and members of the 5KAC expressed their gratitude for the assistance, emphasizing that the partnership with ICOPED is a vital step toward sustainable growth and long-term compliance with regulatory requirements.
