In a joint initiative to strengthen the cooperative sector through capacity building, the Institute of Cooperatives and Bio-Enterprise Development (ICOPED) conducted a Training of Trainers for the Accredited Training Providers of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) in partnership with the CaLaBarZon and MiMaRoPa Union Cooperative (CMUC) last 28-30 April 2025 at the Sioland Grand Premier Hotel, Candelaria, Quezon.
The training aimed to equip the prospective applicants of the CDA Accreditation Program in conducting and managing training programs for cooperatives. It was structured into four comprehensive modules, each led by the esteemed faculty of ICOPED. Thirty-one cooperative officers and members attended the training. The first module laid the groundwork by discussing the Philippine cooperative landscape and emphasizing education and training as a core principle of cooperative practice. The session was facilitated by Assistant Professor Maria Theresa M. Castro. The second module delved into the training management cycle and training design. The session on training design was conducted by Director and Associate Professor, Dr. Karen Q. Custodio. She also discussed cooperative training skills and techniques, which focused on enhancing participants’ presentation and facilitation skills. The final module addressed the Revised Guidelines Implementing the New Training Requirements for Cooperative Officers and action planning. This practical session, led by Assistant Professor Jan Danica S. Asma, guided participants in creating actionable plans tailored to their respective cooperative training contexts. To reinforce the practical application of the concepts learned, participants engaged in microteaching sessions, a key component of the training. These sessions allowed trainees to demonstrate and refine their presentation skills, instructional strategies, and content delivery in a simulated training environment. Feedback from the facilitator and their peers helped the participants enhance their effectiveness as future cooperative trainers. The collaborative effort underscores the importance of empowering cooperative trainers with the necessary tools and knowledge to foster responsive cooperatives across the country. YMLDizon
