Calamba, Laguna – The Institute of Cooperatives and Bio-Enterprise Development (ICOPED) held a training on Financial Management among Calamba-based cooperatives last June 28-29, 2017 at the Calamba Training Center II, Mercado de Calamba, Poblacion. The said training is one of the three mandatory trainings stipulated by the Philippine Cooperative Code of 2008 or RA 9520 for cooperatives engaged in savings and credit with at least PhP5 million worth of deposit liabilities based on their latest audited financial statement. Participants of the training learned about applying management principles on financial resources of their cooperatives. Specifically, the training covered topics on the basic concepts of cooperative financial management, financial standards, and annual plans and budget. Ms. Arminga B. Peria, a retired University Researcher of ICOPED, Ms. Joan E. Mendoza, Chief Accountant of the UPLB Accounting Office and Senior Lecturer of the Department of Agribusiness, Management and Entrepreneurship of the College of Economics and Management, Ms. Maria Cielo M. Lampa, Chief Administrative Officer of the SPMO, UPLB, and Ms. Alicia R. Quicoy, University Researcher of ICOPED served as the resource persons.
Twenty-six (26) participants composed of cooperative officers and members attended the training. Among the cooperatives represented were: Calamba Fisherfolks Producers Cooperative, Calamba Parish Development Cooperative, Barangay Looc Producers Cooperative, Edward Keller Multipurpose Cooperative, Calamba Multipurpose Cooperative, Couples for Christ Multipurpose Cooperative Laguna 1, Calamba Bayside Multipurpose Cooperative, San Cristobal Credit Cooperative, Local Tourist Vendors Credit Cooperative, Enkei Philippines Employees Multipurpose Cooperative, and Calamba City Employees Multipurpose Cooperative.
