Cabuyao, Laguna―The Institute of Cooperatives and Bio-Enterprise Development (ICOPED) conducted the first part of the Governance and Management Training Course for NXP Cabuyao Employees MPC officers on August 20, 2016; the rest of the topics will be tackled on August 27, 2016. The course is a mandatory training which is designed to enhance the knowledge of the cooperative officers in the practice of good governance and management in the cooperative, to enable officers’ effective operation of the cooperative as an economic and social enterprise. Topics covered were: (1) Governance Principles and Practices and (2) Relevant Laws Affecting Cooperatives. Ms. Pheobe E. Cervantes, Senior Cooperative Development Specialist of Cooperatives and Livelihood Development Department (CLDD) of Calamba City, Ms. Arminga B. Peria and Ms. Alicia R. Quicoy, University Researchers of ICOPED, served as resource persons for the training. There were 26 participants, comprised of board of directors, general manager, treasurer, secretary, heads of committees, and members. Topics to be covered on August 27 are: (1) Operation and Management of Cooperative and (2) Overview of Social and Economic Standards for Cooperatives.
The resource persons that will serve are― Ms. Maria Cileo M. Lampa, Chief SPMO-UPLB, Ms. Anselma C. Manila, retired University Extension Specialist and Ms. Liezel S. Cruz, Assistant Professor, both of ICOPED. The NXP Cabuyao Employees MPC has more than 5,000 members and assets of about PHP 175 M. It offers several services such as provision of credit, bayad center, and grocery within the premises of the company. It is necessary for NXP officers to undergo the mandated training courses by the CDA for capability-building of the officers for efficiency and effectiveness in performing their duties and responsibilities.
