Los Banos, Laguna− The Institute of Cooperatives and Bio-Enterprise Development (ICOPED) conducted a four-day course, training of trainers (TOT) for the accredited training providers of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) last November 8-11, 2016 at the ICOPED Auditorium, CEM, UPLB, College, Laguna. The course was designed to enhance and upgrade the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed by trainers to effectively conduct the trainings required for the cooperatives. ICOPED is the only institution in Region IV authorized by CDA to conduct TOT of accredited training providers and prospective applicants of CDA’s accreditation program.
The training course includes four (4) modules― Cooperative as a Tool for Development, Component of a Training Cycle, Cooperative Training Skills and Techniques, and Action Planning. It aimed to: (1) develop the participants’ understanding of the cooperative as a strategy for poverty alleviation and sustainable development; (2) enable the participants to comprehend the concepts, principles, processes, and methods of training management of various CDA courses; (3) equip participants with the skills in preparation and delivery of training course responsive to the learning needs of their clientele; and (4) assists the participants to conceptualize an action plan for the implementation of the cooperative training courses. ICOPED’s University Researchers, Ms. Alicia R. Quicoy and Arminga B. Peria coordinated the training and also served as resource persons. The other resource persons were Ms. Anselma C. Manila, retired University Extension Specialist of ICOPED, Dr. Mildred O. Moscoso, Assistant Professor and Dr. Benjamina Paula G. Flor, Associate Professor of the College of Development Communication (CDC) and Dr. Evelie P. Serrano, Assistant Professor of the College of Public Affairs and Development (CPAf). A total of 27 participants completed the training. The participants were from Calapan City, Mindoro, Calbayog City, Samar (Calbayog City Cooperative Office), Lipa City, Batangas (DepEd Lipa City Multi-purpose Cooperative, Filipino Entrepreneur Multi-purpose Cooperative, Lipa City Cooperative Office, Lipa City District Hospital Multi-purpose Cooperative, Lipa City Government Employees Multi-purpose Cooperative, Plaridel Multi-purpose Cooperative, Southern Luzon Farmer’s Trading and Marketing Cooperative), Los Baňos, Laguna (ICOPED), Silang, Cavite (PAMANA Development Cooperative Federation), and Tayabas City, Quezon (Tayabas City Cooperative Office, Tayabas City Local Government). Training is a process of acquiring knowledge, skills and attitude to fill the gap between what a person can do and what the person needs to do, to fulfill his/her duty.
