College, Laguna – On July 22, 2016, the Institute of Cooperatives and Bio-Enterprise Development (ICOPED), College of Economics and Management (CEM), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) conducted a Basic Cooperative Training Course for the Aspiring Citizens for Community Empowerment, Inc. (ACCEI) at ICOPED, CEM. ACCEI is a non-government organization that seeks to empower community groups in the Philippines to become more self-reliant and move out of poverty through health support, education and fair trade in rural and urban communities.
The Basic Cooperative Course, which was tailor-made for ACCEI, sought to explain the fundamentals of cooperative history, principles and practices; discuss the nature, types, and organizational structure of cooperatives; and describe the requirements and process of cooperative registration. A total of eight (8) participants successfully completed the course. Ms. Alicia Quicoy and Ms. Arminga B. Peria served as resource speakers of the training course. KPQuilloy

Institutional Gurus and Pioneers graced the Cooperative Centennial Book-writing Committee Meeting7/1/2016 Cubao, Quezon City -- The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) together with members of the book-writing committee coming from representatives of various groups and institutions of the Philippine cooperative movement held its regular meeting last July 1, 2016 at the CDA Central Office in Cubao, Q.C. The objective of this meeting was to discuss the progress of the cooperative book which, when launch, will commemorate the Centennial Year of Cooperatives in the Philippines.
In this meeting, institutional gurus and pioneers joined the discussion to enlighten and offer their personal accounts, experiences and insights to the book-writing committee members on how and why some important breakthrough programs in the Philippine cooperative history came about. These were Lex Borja of Cooperative Union of the Philippines (CUP), Ambrosio Rodriguez of Cooperative Insurance System of the Philippines (CISP), Dr. Eulogio T. Castillo of Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and Dr. Orlando J. Sacay, the father of the Philippine Cooperative Banking and author of "Samahang Nayon". (LS Cruz) |
