Calamba, Laguna ─ The Institute of Cooperatives and Bio-Enterprise Development (ICOPED) in partnership with the Cooperatives and Livelihood Development Department (CLDD) of Calamba City Government conducted a training course on Credit Management on August 12, 2016 at the Calamba City Training Center, Plaza Mercado. The credit management course is a mandatory training for officers of cooperatives engaged in savings and credit with at least PHP 5,000,000 worth of deposit liabilities based on the latest audited financial statement; as stipulated in RA 9520, the Philippine Cooperative Code of 2008.
The course encompasses the concepts and application of credit management practices in the cooperative which aimed to: (1) develop the participants’ foundation of financial management concepts; (2) enable the participants to understand what credit risk management is, what the lending objectives are, and how to measure credit risk. Among the topics discussed were: (1) concepts and principles of savings and credit, (2) elements of credit/lending policy, and (3) effective credit/lending process. Ms. Arminga B. Peria and Ms. Alicia R. Quicoy, University Researchers of ICOPED, served as resource persons for the training. A total of 40 participants, comprised of board of directors, general managers, heads of the audit and credit committees) from eight cooperatives in Calamba, Laguna, completed the training. They are from the following cooperatives: Calamba City Employee Multipurpose Cooperative, Calamba Vendors Marketing Cooperative, Kalayaan Multipurpose Cooperative, Laguna Driver Operators Transport Multipurpose Cooperative, Paciano Market Multipurpose Cooperative, Philippine Auto Components Multipurpose Cooperative, Maswerte Consumers Cooperative, and San Roque Tuloy Akbay sa Kaunlaran Cooperative. ICOPED is a duly accredited training service provider of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA). The Institute conducts CDA-prescribed training courses and Training of Trainers, which aims to provide managerial and entrepreneurial skills to cooperative stakeholders. PMLuis
